Libraries in Schools

As a team, we at FICUS have been 'raised by libraries' so to speak. The importance of having access to a vast collection of books can't be understated in its contribution to learning. Given how most of our students fear books thanks to the tyranny of the textbook; storybooks and picture books have been immensely helpful in bringing children to the world of delightful and imaginative learning.

With our aim of improving literacy, we have found the most tried and true method of reading to be a necessary part of our student's day to day lives.  With the lack of active libraries in the corporation schools we work with and books being neglected behind the glasses of locked and polished bookshelves, the 'Libraries in Schools' program was born to address the needs of our students. We at FICUS were extremely thrilled to receive a multitude of books at our doorstep when the call was made, asking for books to be donated for our program.

To further explore libraries as alternative spaces of learning, we are grateful for the opportunity given to us by Wipro Foundation in putting us in touch with the 'Introduction to Libraries Workshop' by the wonderful Bookworm  Library and Trust
